Which phones and apps show the contacts?

Updated 13 October 2026

ModernSync writes the contacts into each employee’s mailbox in Microsoft 365. From there they appear on every device and app that syncs the mailbox’s contacts.

iPhone

With the work account added as a Microsoft 365 or Exchange account and Contacts turned on, the contacts appear in the iPhone’s own Contacts app and show names on incoming calls. The Outlook app can also save contacts to the phone.

Android

There are two routes. One is the Outlook app with Sync contacts turned on. The other is a Microsoft 365 or Exchange account in the phone’s own mail app, such as Samsung Email, with contacts sync turned on.

Outlook for Windows, Mac and the web

The contacts appear under People in all three versions, including new Outlook.

Calendars (add-on)

Shared calendars appear as their own calendar in each employee’s calendar list: in the phone’s calendar app on iPhone and Android, in the Outlook app, and in Outlook on the desktop and the web.

Contacts not showing on a phone?

You can send this section to an employee. Check four things on the phone:

  • Contacts is switched on for the work account in the phone’s account settings.
  • The contacts are in the main Contacts folder. Phones don’t show subfolders, so a rule that writes to a subfolder only reaches Outlook. IT changes this in the rule.
  • The Outlook app may access the phone’s contacts, if the phone uses the Outlook app to sync them.
  • Battery saving is not stopping the Outlook app on Android.

Still missing? IT can go through the causes in the iPhone guide and the Android guide.
